Fashion trends come and go, but if there’s something you love wearing and think you rock, never stop, says Tsunami Costabir.
The year 2000 (Y2K) was an excellent year for experimentation, glitz and glam, and accessorizing basic clothing like a pro! Designer brands like Dior, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and many others also set the scene for some of the most well-loved trends of the late ‘90s and early 2000s.
An important element of the Y2K look is nostalgia. It’s a great way to repurpose your old clothing and still look fashionable. So, let’s deep dive into some of the best fashion trends from back then that are coming back (and some that never went out of style)!
A really cool trend back in the 2000s was wearing simple, pastel camis with pretty lace detailing. This casual look could get elevated very quickly when paired with some layered jewellery, and denim bottoms.
High Waist, pleated skirts
Everyone loves a good waist moment. Flared, high-waisted skirts accentuate the curve of the body and make your waist look snatched. No wonder they were such a popular trend, we don’t think they ever went out of style. Plaid skirts also look extremely adorable…
Ribbed Cardigans
Ribbed cardigans are an absolute staple in every Fall-Winter closet and collection. The V-neck accentuates your collarbones and overall, gives you a super pretty look. They can also be buttoned all the way up and paired with a short, pleated skirt for a cute but comfy look.
Layered Necklaces
These pretty little things never really went out of style, did they? Layered necklaces are probably the most delicate, dainty addition to any outfit. They can be layered on top of a turtleneck just as easily as they go with a bare neck. Spicing up the look with chokers and chunky jewellery is something we could never say no to!
Corset tops
We spent the evening watching the sunset at the most famous spot on the island – Zuma, Cavo Tagoo. Watching the sun set from the comfort of our sunbeds, taking in the breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea, was wonderful. These opulent beds of Zuma decorated the picturesque infinity pool in the most amazing way.
Kitsch accessories and bandanas
And finally, the most fun element of a Y2K look, the kitsch accessories… you are allowed, nay, compelled to go absolutely crazy with hair jewels, pins, ties, bandanas, and colours… the more creative, the better!
